Hey, I’m Josh – a singer, guitarist and DJ based in Melbourne, and the founder of Sperring Entertainment.

I’ve been playing music for over 20 years, ever since I got a guitar for my birthday as a teen. I started out writing songs, playing in bands, and even won a radio competition that saw me performing in front of thousands at Federation Square. But while the spotlight was exciting, I quickly realised I was happiest not in it – but using my music to support and elevate other people’s moments. That’s why weddings and events felt like the perfect fit.

After 13 years as a horticulturalist (yep, I used to be the guy growing your roses and designing garden beds), I made the leap to full-time music in 2021 – and haven’t looked back. I’ve now performed at over 500 weddings and events, and I bring live acoustic sets, smooth DJ transitions, and a calm, friendly presence to each one.

Personally? I’m pretty chilled, but also extremely organised, and pride myself on great communication. Whether it’s helping with timelines, suggesting first dance songs, or working with your venue and other suppliers – I’m here to make your day as smooth and stress-free as possible. I also carry top-tier gear (and backups!) to make sure nothing gets in the way of the party.

 

On the home front, I’m married to my incredible wife Rowie – we tied the knot in 2021 after four COVID postponements and a last-minute (lock down induced) guest list cut from 140 to 20. So yep, I know first-hand how stressful wedding planning can be! These days, life’s a beautiful blur of music, weddings, and family time with our daughter, our newborn son, and our very spoilt cavoodle, Murphy.

 

When I’m not performing, you’ll usually find me trying to sneak off to the footy (I’m a long-suffering Carlton supporter), planning my next DIY project, or getting way too excited about a new recipe or restaurant. I’m a big foodie, love to cook, and consider myself a bit of a whisky and red wine connoisseur – though these days, with two kids and a wedding every weekend, I don’t get to indulge too often! I also love to travel and was lucky enough to go overseas every year from 2012 to 2020- when COVID put a spanner in the works for my travel plans.
